Are there any health precautions that I should be aware of?

Surfing is a high-cardio sport. If you are feeling faint or weak, please be sure to let your surf instructor know so that they are able to assist you back to shore. We recommend following several health precautions to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience. These include:

  1. Warm-up and Stretching: We always start with a proper warm-up to prevent muscle strains and injuries.

  2. Use of Sunscreen: Apply waterproof reef safe sunscreen to protect against sunburn, even on cloudy days.

  3. Hydration: Drink plenty of water before and after the lesson to avoid dehydration.

  4. Know Your Limits: Don’t push yourself too hard, especially if you’re new to surfing or not a strong swimmer.

  5. Wear Proper Gear: Use a wetsuit or rash guard provided by GSL for sun and abrasion protection. Your surfboard has a leash to prevent losing it.

  6. Learn Safety Signals: Follow your instructor's safety instructions and understand basic ocean safety, like identifying rip currents.

  7. Avoid Surfing When Sick or Tired: Being physically unwell or fatigued increases your risk of accidents.

These precautions help minimize risks and make surfing a safer and more enjoyable activity.

Do we get to keep the Rashguards we use for our lessons?

No. Got'Um Surfing LLC. provides the use of UV Protective Rash Guard Swim Shirts and Surf Shoe Booties for use during your lesson only.
